OUR SCHOOL - BELMONT CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
With a vision for Christian schooling in the Belmont area by members of Belmont Baptist Church, the College grew from humble beginnings with an enrolment of just 13 students in 1982.
The original name of the school was Belmont Baptist Christian Community School and it was housed in temporary accommodation in the double storey hall and in properties at the rear of Belmont Baptist Church. By 1990 the student enrolment had out-grown the facilities at the church and the school moved to its current site, the old John Darling Colliery, which was owned by the BHP. 1996 was a significant year. With continuing strong growth, it saw the first Year 12 cohort do their Higher School Certificate and also a name change for the School to Belmont Christian College (BCC).
Long serving Principal, Mrs Diane Wooldridge, retired after 22 years of service in 2004 with the College having grown to 720 students. 2005 saw the appointment of Mr Michael Budden, who faithfully served as Principal for 11 years and retired in 2015. Ms Sharon Sopher is our current Principal and she started at the commencement of 2016.
The introduction of the Preschool (3 year olds) and PREP, (four year olds - school-readiness program), the building of the Middle School and the completion of the Library under the Federal government BER funding and our Junior, Middle & Prep Building have been significant events in the history of BCC. The original vision to offer education to the children of Christian families who wanted biblical principles and Christian values supported in their children continues to be the vision of BCC. We are privileged to speak into the lives of our many students.
Belmont Baptist Church is proud to have been part of the journey in the past, and looks forward to continuing our on going relationship into the future. Click to check out the school!
